Introduction Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) typically provides detection limits in the low-ppt to sub-ppt range for all but a few of over 70 elements. Unfortunately, for a handful of elements, conventional ICP-MS cannot provide the best possible detection limits. The detection limits for these elements are limited by plasma or sample matrix-based polyatomic interferences. Fortunately, PerkinElmer SCIEX has developed a way to unlock the capabilities of ICP-MS for these elements and redefine the elements that can be detected by ICP-MS. Using Dynamic Reaction CellTM (DRCTM) technology (patent pending) with Dynamic Bandpass Tuning, ultra-trace detection limits that were previously unattainable for many elements are now achievable. DRC ICP-MS eliminates polyatomic interferences before they can enter the analyzing quadrupole. Some examples of classical ICP-MS interferences that are eliminated using the ELAN® DRC ICP-MS are listed in Table 1.
